Free Comic Book Day 2013

FCBD 2013 was a blast! I managed to hit three comic book stores this time around: Magnum Comics & Cards, Jim Hanley Comic Books, and Midtown Comics! You can check out my adventures and top picks this year in the vlog:

While at Jim Hanley’s, I actually ran into some of the folks from Wayward Raven and did my first on-the-street interview! They have some free digital goodies available for you to download on their site, too.

NYCC Interview with Dapper Men’s Janet Lee

At New York Comic Con this year, I had the chance to sit down with Janet Lee, illustrator for the Eisner-award-winning Dapper Men! She talked about what’s coming up in Dapper Men, her work on Marvel’s Emma adaptation, her future projects, and her process for creating every elaborate comic page. There’s even a sneak peek of next year’s work! She was such a sweetheart.

Philly Con Interview Master List

So many interviews from Wizard World’s Philadelphia Comic Con! Here’s the full collection for your convenience (and my own sanity):

  • Superman: Earth One artist Shane Davis talks about the next volume of the popular Clark Kent origin story and a secret Marvel project.
  • Prince of Power, Amazing Spider-Man, and Chaos War artist Reilly Brown shares his great experiences with Marvel and his affinity for Deadpool. Plus, a sneak peek of his own comic, Power Play!
  • Arthur Suydam gives me a lesson on what it means to be the “Zombie King,” chats about his music career, and offers his opinion on who would win in a Batman vs. Predator battle.
  • The Walking Dead’s Addy Miller tells me what it was like to be a creepy little zombie girl and hints at some future projects.
  • Amazing Spider-Man artist Humberto Ramos shows me the goods for his own comic, Fairy Quest, and gets us all excited for Marvel’s new Spider-Island arc.
  • Moon Girl’s Johnny Zito and Tony Trov explain how their partnership and comic came to be, then Johnny clarifies why he needed to order a truckload of maggots for their movie project (gross!).
  • Illustrator Dennis Calero promotes his webcomic, Devil Inside, and shares my excitement for the Cowboys and Aliens movie.
  • Don Oriolo, carrier of the Felix the Cat legacy, shows off his new line of amazing guitars and sings me a song.
  • Artist Scott Ethan Ambruson tells me about his convention plans, inspiration, and print-making process.
  • Popular online artist Ian Glaubinger lets me flip through his amazing pop culture pieces and explains the importance of convention exposure.

Interview with Stan Lee

I had the wonderful opportunity to interview Stan Lee at the Animazing Gallery in New York City (which, by the way, is a great place, so you should definitely check it out if you’re in the neighborhood).  He talked to me about many of his upcoming projects, including his company POW! Entertainment and his collaborations with Boom Studios and Archie Comics.  It was a real honor meeting him!  Such a sweet man.

Also, if you get the chance, be sure to look up artist Jorge Burtin.  He had a number of truly amazing pixaic works (including two incredible ones of Thor and Iron Man) for sale at the gallery.  All profits went to the Stan Lee Foundation, which I thought was fantastic.  I think we should be highly supportive of artists that use their talents for such selfless causes!

Interview with Marvel writer Dan Slott

A while ago, I sat down and talked comics with Dan Slott (known for his work on Avengers: Initiative, She-Hulk, and The Amazing Spider-Man) for a few hours. It’s taken this long for the video to finally be put up in its completion, but here you have it! In 8 glorious parts. Check out the playlist right here!
